Branding – It’s More Than A Logo

Branding – it’s such a buzzword currently, but most business owners are confused about what branding really means. It’s much more than a logo or colors or fonts or marketing. It is all that and so much more and it starts with Your Story.

This is the story of how you got to where you are now. The story of your past experiences that feeds into your business. The story of where you are heading as you move into the future. Knowing your story and being able to tell others is the start of building your brand.

I know, it’s not as fun as picking out some great colors or deciding on a logo that represents you or even on designing your business card, but it’s essential. Knowing where you’ve come from along with your current truth leads you to the goals you are working toward. That’s critical for your brand because it’s through your brand you are sharing your story with others.

Take a moment to write out (yes, actually write it out) your journey to where you are today. Don’t worry that you have to get it looking a certain way, right now this is for your own benefit. Include the experience of your past that you are bringing into your business today and how that is a strength as you build toward the future.

Knowing your branding story will help you create, develop, and refine your business’s look and feel as you put it out in the world. While brands change and develop over time their brand story remains the baseline on which they make those changes. It’s the foundation of why you are doing what you are doing and the goals you have as you move forward.
